US based e-commerce market leader Amazon have announced that the company will launch Amazon.co.za in 2024 and will allow independent sellers in South Africa to register their businesses from today.
The company says the new local marketplace will provide South African-based sellers the ability to reach customers across the country.
According to Amazon, 60% of sales in their store are through independent sellers — most of which are small and medium-sized businesses.
Amazon offers a range of tools, programs and services for sellers, including articles, videos, webinars and case studies via their seller portal.
The launch of the e-commerce giant's local marketplace will increase competition in the local sector, which is currently dominated by Takealot.com.
