Eskom announces stage 2 load-shedding until Monday
Sat, 23 October 2021 – Staff Writer
Eskom have announced that stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 9pm on Saturday night until 5am on Monday morning due to multiple breakdowns and trips at Tutuka, Kriel, Hendrina, Kusile, Arnot and Kendal power stations.
The utility claimed that the situation was the result of breakdowns, trips and delays in returning units to service which required them to rely heavily on emergency generation reserves. It said the measures were necessary to preserve the remaining emergency reserves before Monday for the week ahead.
Breakdowns were stated to be at 15 627MW of capacity, while another 4 954MW was apparently unavailable due to planned maintenance.
