Eskom announces stage 2 load-shedding as ten units go down
Sun, 16 May 2021 – Staff Writer
Eskom announced that stage 2 load-shedding would commence at 5pm on Sunday until 10pm on Tuesday due to a loss of ten generating units at seven power stations during the past 24 hours.
The utility said the loss of 6 044MW in last 24 hours resulted in a total unplanned capacity loss of 16 118MW, while planned maintenance was at 4 171MW.
According to Eskom, the failure of three generation units at Tutuka was due to loss of air compressors and a unit at Majuba was a forced shutdown after another unit tripped.
Further outages included a generation unit at Kriel due to a boiler tube leak and a unit at Matla power station due to a steam leak.
Eskom said trips at Medupi, Kusile and the Duvha power stations were being investigated.
