Eskom announces stage 4 load-shedding this weekend
Fri, 5 November 2021 – Staff Writer
Eskom announced that stage 4 load-shedding would be implemented from 2pm on Friday until 5am on Saturday, followed by stage 2 until 5am on Monday.
The current load-shedding is being blamed on the shut down of three generating units at Kendal Power Station, the trip of a unit each at Tutuka and Matimba power stations and the delayed return to service of a unit each at Majuba and Lethabo power stations.
The utility said that load-shedding is necessary to avoid the use of the open-cycle gas turbine (OCGT) generators in order to preserve the remaining fuel at these power stations, which is critically low.
Breakdowns were stated to be at 17 437MW of capacity, while another 4 361MW was apparently unavailable due to planned maintenance.
