Loadshedding
Eskom extends stage 2 load-shedding until Tuesday
Sun, 24 October 2021 – Staff Writer
Eskom announced that due to the loss of Koeberg Unit 1 on Sunday morning they anticipate the need to utilise emergency reserves extensively during the following few days and therefore while load-shedding would be suspended at 5am on Monday, it would continue from 9pm until 5am on Monday and Tuesday.
The utility said Koeberg Unit 1 tripped on Sunday morning as a result of a fault on a feedwater pump and the plant was shut down in accordance with standard plant operating procedures with no nuclear safety concerns on the reactor side of the plant.
While some units had been returned to service, units at Hendrina and Kriel power stations were taken offline in addition to the Koeberg unit.
Breakdowns were stated to be at 15 813MW of capacity, while another 4 967MW was apparently unavailable due to planned maintenance.
