Eskom announced a move to stage 6 load-shedding until further notice in the early hours of Sunday morning due to multiple unit trips at Camden Power Station.

Stage 6 load-shedding was implemented from 1:30am on Sunday morning after Eskom announced stage 3 without warning on Saturday afternoon.

According to the utility, this was necessitated by multiple unit trips at Majuba Power Station and a unit trip at Medupi that resulted in a loss of 3 864 MW in generation capacity.

This followed more than 20 days of uninterrupted electricity supply.

A media briefing will be held at 11am on Sunday to provide more details and updates on the power system.
