Eskom rolls out stage 6 to make it a really black Friday
Fri, 24 November 2023

Eskom implemented stage 6 load-shedding from 12pm on Friday 24 November due to a shortage of generating capacity and emergency reserves.
Eskom attributed the increased stages to the loss of five generating units over the past 24 hours.
The move from stage 4 to stage 6 follows a period of reduced load-shedding since the middle of September, up until this week.
Stage 6 seems to have arrived early for the holidays this year despite Eskom's maintenance programme, while last year the 7th of December was the beginning of a stage 6 rollout period.
Koeberg nuclear power station recently added over 900MW to the grid after an extended maintenance period.
The Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, as well as other Eskom executives are expected to brief the media on the matter at 3pm on Friday.
