Eskom suspends power station managers after stage 4 load-shedding
Fri, 4 September 2020 – Staff Writer
Eskom chief executive André de Ruiter has suspended the Tutuka and Kendal power station managers pending disciplinary inquiries after breakdowns resulted in stage 4 load-shedding during the week.
"Whist it is true that the aging fleet is plagued by legacy issues of neglect and omitted maintenance and is therefore susceptible to unpredictable breakdowns, it is also true that the situation is exacerbated by serious issues of apathetic behaviour by some management staff," the utility’s board said in a statement on Friday.
The Eskom board declared their support for de Ruiter's actioned and said further interventions were ongoing at the Kriel and Duvha power stations.
The statement noted that engagements had been held with other power station mangers to ensure that “the previous culture of weak consequence management” would no longer be the norm or be tolerated.
