Wed, 13 May 2020 - Staff Writer
The sales and new and used cars has now been authorised under level 4 regulations, according to changes published by the government yesterday.
Wholesale trade of new and used cars as well as trade-in purchases and car lease scheme returns are now also permitted.
During phase one of the new regulations, dealerships and used car outlets are required to operate with no more than 30% of employment subject to a maximum of one employee or customer per every nine square metres of floor space.
Vehicle repairs and servicing is now also permitted, but members of the public will not be allowed, under any circumstances, to enter the workshop environment.
Besides repairs on essential services vehicles or the cars of persons performing essential services, the changes now also allow repairs required to restore a vehicle’s safety and roadworthiness to good running condition as well as routine servicing that is due or overdue in terms of the manufacturer’s recommended service intervals.
Cosmetic repairs and voluntary or routine servicing that is not overdue in terms of manufacturer’s service intervals are not allowed during phase 1. Urgent repairs from a collision are however permitted.
Various administrative and other functions such as roadworthy assessment and testing centres will also now be operational.
The regulations also permit auto electricians, tyre fitment, windscreen replacement centres, bond stores and parts distribution centres to reopen.
